Junior Accountant

Location: Moncton, New Brunswick

Term: Permanent; Full-Time

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday)

Breathe BioMedical is an innovative medical technology company based in Moncton, New Brunswick. With its patented breath analysis technology, its team of professionals is developing a breath test for lung cancer screening and researching additional non-invasive diagnostic tests.

The Junior Accountant is responsible for managing all financial transactions from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets; auditing financial documents and procedures, reconciling bank statements and calculating tax payments and returns. This position will provide accurate quantitative information on financial position, liquidity, and cash flows of the business, while ensuring the company is compliant with all tax regulations.

This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Internally this position interacts with all employees and management. Externally this position interacts with industry organizations, consultants, vendors, company auditors and CRA.

• Responsible for meeting all assigned deadlines
• Works with supervisor to resolve any technical, productivity, safety or scheduling problems

Main Duties

• Maintains accounting files and conducts monthly back-ups
• Maintains accounting controls by recommending and aiding in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines
• Proactively identifies areas for improvement and implements improvements to processes
• Manages accounts payables & receivables
• Processes bi-weekly payroll, government, and other payroll remittances
• Prepares and reconciles annual T4s, T4As, T5s, workers compensation and other payroll accounts
• Resolves payroll discrepancies and addresses employee issues
• Manages employee benefit claims
• Maintains all legal contracts (Employment, Consultants, IP filings/ patents, customer contracts, etc.), updates summary list monthly
• Updates and provides P&L as per QuickBooks within 5 days of month-end
• Prepares monthly budget report within 5 days of month-end, which includes budget vs. actual results with supporting commentary
• Prepares rolling 12-month cashflow forecast within 5 days of month-end
• Maintains all IP files (patents and pending patents); proactively identifies risk to IP portfolio, new IP filings and processes; provides a quarterly update within 5 days of quarter-end
• Prepares management financial statements within 15 days of quarter-end
• Assists with and acts as the primary point-of-contact for auditor requests; ccompletes year-end audit preparation of management statements including back up for auditors within 15 days of fiscal year-end
• Coordinates the operating, capital, revenue and FTE budget development and approval processes as per projects plans
• Calculates and prepares all entries and adjustments for amortization and depreciation
• Maintains and updates cap table
• Keeps all corporate debt current with all supporting documentation
• Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner and securely maintains all financial information
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Qualifications

Education

• Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Finance
• Working toward or willing to enroll in the CPA Program

Experience

• 3+ years experience in an accounting role
• Experience using QuickBooks

Skills
• Knowledge of IFRS and applicable internal controls concepts considered an asset
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles
• Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative
• Organized with strong time management skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritizes multiple projects, addresses multiple issues, and handles multiple deadlines, in a hands-on environment
• Highly analytical mind with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Solid decision-making skills
• Must work precisely according to procedures, rules and regulations
• Adaptable to change
• Solid communication skills (verbal, written, listening, conveying messages)
• Proficient in MS suite of products; advances knowledge of MS Excel
